Job summary

Human Rights Watch, Inc. in Santa Monica seeks an Associate Director for Development and Outreach to lead fundraising strategy and events in the Los Angeles area. This full-time role reports to the Los Angeles Director and requires in-office presence about 3 days a week, with some evenings and weekends for events.

The successful candidate will mentor staff, manage donor relations, and oversee outreach and communications to expand support for HRW’s mission in the LA region.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in international relations, social sciences, communications/marketing, or related field.
• Minimum 7 years donor management/fundraising experience with success in managing large events.
• Excellent written and oral communication in English; ability to build donor and volunteer relationships.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement fundraising strategy in partnership with the Los Angeles Director.
• Lead, mentor, and manage the direct report, with clear objectives and feedback.
• Oversee outreach and cultivation events in LA, including Voices for Justice, briefings, and private dinners.
• Coordinate with committees and liaise with event consultants.
• Identify and cultivate new prospects and donors to expand support for HRW.
• Oversee donor communications, reporting, and Salesforce donor data management.
• Develop and implement the Committee's strategic plan with Executive Committee.
• Ensure efficient fundraising operations and event budgeting.
