Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Associate Director, Compliance based in the United States.

Take on a strategic leadership role in strengthening regulatory compliance and risk management within the mortgage lending industry.
As Associate Director, Compliance, you will drive the development and continuous improvement of compliance monitoring and testing programs across lending operations.
You will oversee quality assurance reviews, assess control effectiveness, and identify emerging regulatory risks to support a robust compliance management system.
Working closely with compliance leaders, business stakeholders, and audit teams, you will provide actionable regulatory guidance and promote consistent adherence to applicable laws and internal policies.
You will also coordinate regulatory examination readiness, manage loan file submissions, and support branch audit activities and corrective action plans.
This opportunity is ideal for an experienced compliance professional who combines deep mortgage regulatory knowledge with strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.
Through your expertise, you will help protect the organization, strengthen operational controls, and foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement in a dynamic, remote work environment.

Accountabilities
  • Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of compliance monitoring and testing programs, including procedures, testing methodologies, scripts, and reporting protocols.
  • Ensure monitoring and testing activities remain aligned with applicable regulatory requirements and internal standards while effectively identifying compliance deficiencies, control weaknesses, and emerging risks.
  • Conduct second-level quality assurance reviews of monitoring and testing results, validating methodology adherence, findings accuracy, supporting documentation, severity classifications, and regulatory conclusions.
  • Partner with compliance leadership and business stakeholders to establish performance objectives, evaluate program metrics, and implement initiatives that improve operational efficiency, accountability, and program effectiveness.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for operational compliance matters across lending channels, providing timely and practical regulatory guidance to resolve complex issues and support informed business decisions.
  • Interpret applicable mortgage lending regulations and translate requirements into actionable guidance, consistent processes, and effective compliance controls.
  • Coordinate regulatory examinations and audit-related requests, overseeing the collection, validation, and timely submission of loan files and supporting documentation.
  • Support the oversight and execution of branch audit activities, collaborating with audit personnel, branch leadership, and business stakeholders to ensure timely completion of deliverables.
  • Monitor audit findings, facilitate appropriate escalation, and support the implementation and tracking of corrective actions to address identified deficiencies.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of existing compliance controls and recommend improvements to strengthen the overall Compliance Management System (CMS).
  • Maintain accurate records, clear reporting practices, and effective communication across compliance, operations, and other relevant departments.
  • Manage competing priorities and additional responsibilities assigned by compliance leadership to support departmental goals and broader organizational objectives.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • At least five years of experience within a financial institution, preferably in a large, complex, or highly regulated organization.
  • At least three years of experience in risk management or consumer compliance, specifically involving mortgage origination activities.
  • Comprehensive understanding of mortgage lending operations, including loan processing, underwriting, closing, and quality assurance.

  • Advanced regulatory interpretation and compliance risk assessment capabilities, with the ability to evaluate requirements across mortgage lending operations and identify potential areas of noncompliance.
  • Demonstrated experience developing or overseeing compliance monitoring and testing programs, performing quality assurance reviews, assessing control effectiveness, and documenting findings.
  • Familiarity with regulatory examinations, audit coordination, loan file reviews, corrective action tracking, and compliance reporting.
  • Proficiency with ACES, Encompass, and Jira is preferred.
