Job summary

OUT Maine is seeking an experienced Associate Director to lead internal operations, supervise staff, and strengthen systems that support our LGBTQ+ youth programs. You will collaborate with the Executive Director and Policy Director to ensure services align with our mission across Maine.

You will manage budgets, HR tasks, and day-to-day operations while fostering a collaborative team culture and ensuring compliance with grant and government requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, nonprofit management, or related field.
  • 5+ years nonprofit or relevant management experience, including supervising staff.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Comfort with HR basics, budgeting, or operations.
  • A clear, direct communication style that builds trust with staff at every level.
  • A genuine commitment to LGBTQ+ youth and the communities OUT Maine serves.
  • Lived experience within the LGBTQ+ community is a plus, though not required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high level leadership for OUT Maine’s programs, guiding program policy and ensuring programs stay true to our mission.
  • Supervise and support staff, including hiring, onboarding, training, and performance evaluations
  • Develop and manage program budgets, and ensure grant deliverables and government contract requirements are met on time and within budget
  • Oversee day to day internal operations, including HR administration, personnel records, and organizational policies
  • Cultivate a strong, connected internal team culture that keeps our work grounded in OUT Maine’s mission and long-term vision.
  • Coordinate with the Policy Director to keep program operations aligned with OUT Maine's external legislative and policy priorities
  • Serve on OUT Maine's Leadership Team, support the Executive Director on organizational policy, and step in for the Executive Director on internal operational matters as needed

Job description

OUT Maine is seeking an experienced and mission-driven Associate Director to join our growing team. Working alongside the Executive Director and Policy Director, the Associate Director keeps OUT Maine running smoothly by leading internal operations, supervising and supporting staff, and strengthening the systems that allow our programs to thrive. This role requires strong organizational and people leadership skills and a commitment to creating affirming spaces for LGBTQ+ youth.

What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, nonprofit management, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of nonprofit or relevant management experience, including supervising staff
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities at once
  • Comfort with HR basics, budgeting, or operations
  • A clear, direct communication style that builds trust with staff at every level
  • A genuine commitment to LGBTQ+ youth and the communities OUT Maine serves
  • Lived experience within the LGBTQ+ community is a plus, though not required
Working Conditions
  • This is a full-time position that can be based in Rockland or as a hybrid remote position with required travel to the OUT Maine office in Rockland 4-8 times a month. Some statewide travel may be required on occasion. Evening and weekend hours may be required for special events that are scheduled in advance.
  • Must pass background checks and have a valid driver’s license with access to a vehicle.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Salary from $65,000 - $72,000, based on experience. 3 weeks paid vacation and 2 weeks of sick leave; 14 paid holidays; 100% employer-paid health insurance (employee only); retirement contribution plan; and optional dental coverage.
