Job summary

American Plastics, LLC is seeking a Design Engineer specializing in plastics to join our Mooresville Innovation Center. You will design and develop plastic components, ensuring functionality, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness, using CAD tools and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

The role emphasizes material selection, design optimization, and close work with manufacturing to optimize injection molding, extrusion, and thermoforming processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical or plastics engineering required; new grads considered.
• SolidWorks knowledge required; CATIA helpful.
• Experience with hand prototyping and rapid iteration is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize, design, and develop plastic components and products for manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
• Create 3D models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks or CATIA.
• Oversee prototyping, select materials, and validate fit and function.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and quality teams to ensure design for production.
• Maintain design documentation and change records.
• Stay updated on industry trends and innovations in plastic design.
