Job summary

The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine seeks an Associate Dean of College Operations to oversee facilities, information technology, safety and compliance, and to advance the college's teaching, service, and research missions. The ADCO reports to the Dean and collaborates with senior leaders to align operational priorities with strategic goals.

Responsibilities

Oversee the college's facilities, information technology, and safety and compliance policies to support teaching, service, and research.
Serve as a strategic advisor to the Dean and as a senior administrator bridging academic/clinical missions with university logistics.
Coordinate with facilities planning, IT and college leadership on space, capital projects, and infrastructure needs.
Ensure compliance with university, state, and federal regulations and veterinary accreditation standards (e.g., AVMA COE, USDA, IACUC, EHS).
Lead risk management, safety programs, and continuity planning for the college.

Position Summary

YOU MUST HOLD A CURRENT FACULTY POSITION AT THE RANK OF PROFESSOR OR CLINICAL PROFESSOR IN THE COLLEGE OF VETERINARY MEDICINE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA TO APPLY TO THIS POSITION . The Associate Dean for College Operations ( ADCO ) reports directly to the Dean and oversees the comprehensive management of the college's physical and technical infrastructure, including: facilities, information technology, and safety and compliance policies, designed to support and advance the CVM's tripartite mission of teaching, service, and research. As a senior administrator, the ADCO serves as a strategic advisor to the Dean and other college leaders, bridges the gap between academic/clinical missions and university logistics, and ensures the college is compliant with all university, state, and federal regulations, as well as veterinary accreditation standards.

Additional Requirements

Required Education: A terminal degree or the foreign equivalent with an academic background and appropriate credentials to be a Full Professor in an academic department in the CVM .

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification

Experience: Significant, progressive leadership in senior administration, preferably within an academic health center, veterinary college, or a highly regulated research and/or clinical environment is required.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Operational Acumen: Demonstrated background managing complex physical footprints, capital projects, facilities logistics, or large‑scale technical operations is required.
Compliance Expertise: Deep familiarity with safety protocols, risk management, and state/federal regulatory compliance (e.g., AVMA COE, USDA, IACUC, or EHS guidelines) is required.
Collaborative Leadership: Exceptional communication and conflict‑resolution skills, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, department chairs, university administrators, and external stakeholders is required.

Infrastructure, Facilities & Capital Planning

Space Allocation & Management: Partner with Department Chairs and the Associate Deans to strategically allocate and manage college space, including offices, instructional areas, and specialized research laboratories.
Capital & Maintenance Projects: Coordinate directly with the Dean and the Facilities Planning Director on major maintenance projects, future capital project development, and long‑term facility needs.
Research & Instructional Support: Oversee research space logistics, lab setups, faculty move‑ins, infrastructure upgrades, and the maintenance of modern classroom and conference room facilities.
Institutional Liaison: Serve as the primary, senior‑level liaison between individual CVM units and college/university facilities offices.
Equipment Acquisition: Oversee major equipment acquisition workflows to ensure procurement aligns with facilities capabilities, safety standards, and institutional priorities.

Safety, Risk Management & Compliance

Regulatory & Accreditation Compliance: Oversee CVM safety and compliance frameworks to ensure the college meets or exceeds all state, federal, and institutional regulations, as well as AVMA Council on Education (COE) accreditation standards.
Biosafety & Biosecurity: Support the oversight of specialized veterinary environments (such as clinical teaching hospitals, BSL labs, and animal housing) and research environments (laboratories and shared equipment cores) to maintain rigorous biosafety, radiation safety, and controlled substance protocols.
Emergency Preparedness: Lead the development, testing, and implementation of emergency preparedness plans and individual Unit Business Continuity Plans to protect human and animal populations.

Strategic Leadership, Policy & Technology

Strategic Alignment: Ensure all programmatic operations and facility initiatives directly align and advance the college's overarching strategic plan.
Policy & Governance: Lead the formal review, drafting, and implementation of updates to CVM bylaws and internal operating policies as needed.
Technology & Systems Oversight: Provide administrative supervision for central Information Technology Services and specialized veterinary enterprise systems (e.g., VetView).
Executive Support: Manage special projects assigned by the Dean and serve as the Dean's formal delegate upon request.
