The Role

We’re looking for an Associate Creative Director, Copy —a strategic thinker and masterful writer who can elevate our voice across every touchpoint. This is a pivotal role on our growing creative team, reporting to the Creative Director. You’ll lead the charge in crafting a distinct, compelling brand voice that is unmistakably Athena.

From bold campaign concepts to crisp product copy, you'll help shape how we show up in the world, and build a team that can scale that vision with consistency and care.

What You’ll Do

Set the standard for copy at Athena

  • Own and evolve our voice, tone, and messaging systems across channels
  • Write high-impact content across marketing, brand, product, and internal comms
  • Partner closely with design to create experiences where words and visuals work in harmony
  • Treat copy as both a creative tool and a business lever—bringing clarity and purpose to everything we build

Build and lead a high-performing team

  • Hire, mentor, and grow a team of in-house and freelance writers
  • Create the systems and workflows that enable high-quality, high-velocity work
  • Give thoughtful, actionable feedback that elevates the team’s thinking and execution

Work cross-functionally to drive impact

  • Collaborate with teams across marketing, product, CX, ops, and beyond
  • Help translate strategic goals into powerful, on-brand messaging
  • Contribute to everything from campaign concepts and product launches to lifecycle content and internal storytelling

Champion clarity, consistency, and creativity

  • Balance craft with speed—and know when to refine and when to ship
  • Set a high bar for copy quality without slowing momentum
  • Protect and evolve our voice as we grow

Your Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in copywriting, content strategy, or brand messaging roles
  • A portfolio that shows versatility, voice mastery, and storytelling across formats
  • Experience owning a brand voice and messaging system—and evolving it over time
  • Proven success leading and mentoring other writers
  • Excellent judgment, attention to detail, and communication skills
  • Comfort working cross-functionally and navigating ambiguity
  • Bonus: background in B2B, tech, startups, or category-defining brands
