GEICO is seeking an Associate Counsel to defend lawsuits filed in Texas courts and handle other first-party insurance defense matters. The position is based with GEICO Staff Counsel in San Antonio.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

1. Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
2. Render opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department.
3. Prepare and manage pleadings, motions, discovery, depositions, examinations before trial, and defend cases by trial or dispositive hearing.

Qualifications

• 2-6+ years of litigation experience in insurance defense or personal injury.
• Juris Doctor degree (required).
• Admission to the Texas Bar (required).
• Licensed and in good standing to practice law in Texas, with ability to meet licensing and CLE requirements.
• Willingness to travel as needed for trials, hearings, depositions, and meetings.
• Strong documentation, communication, organization, and multitasking skills.
• Ability to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information.

Preferred Qualifications

• Civil litigation experience.
• Insurance defense-related litigation experience.
• Professional communication skills in person, via phone, and in writing.

Location

Remote (within commuting distance to San Antonio office).

Salary Range

$104,550.00 - $185,525.00 annually, based on various factors such as experience, education, and market considerations.
