Job summary

The Denver Art Museum seeks an Associate Conservator of Modern and Contemporary Art to supervise and perform conservation treatments of modern and contemporary museum objects. You will advocate for preventative care and develop policies to protect the collection, reporting to the Director of Conservation and Technical Studies.

The role requires a Masters in Conservation or equivalent, five years’ museum experience, and strong lab and collaboration skills.

Qualifications

  • Masters in Conservation or equivalent training and experience (may require specialized training).
  • At least five years working in a museum conservation laboratory or equivalent.
  • High level of manual dexterity and hand/eye coordination.
  • Solid color matching abilities for conservation work.
  • Experience with conservation lab equipment including stereo and polarizing microscopes, cameras, fume extraction, vacuum table, etc.
  • Strong work habits, initiative, and organizational skills.
  • Collaborative with conservation staff and other departments.
  • Proficient computer skills including ARGUS, MS Word, and MS Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and perform conservation treatments of modern and contemporary museum objects.
  • Develop and conduct research projects related to conservation in consultation with supervisors and stakeholders.
  • Conduct surveys of museum collections to establish conservation needs and priorities.
  • Order laboratory supplies and equipment as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in laboratory and library.
  • Attend museum meetings on behalf of the conservation department.
  • Assist Director and Associate Director of Conservation in staff selection and intern programs.
  • Prepare lectures, tours, and educational programs in line with priorities.
  • Serve as courier for loan objects.
