Job summary

Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH) seeks an Associate or Full Conservator of Paintings to join the Sarah Campbell Blaffer Foundation Center for Conservation. This full-time position emphasizes preservation of global art, with modern and contemporary works favored, and a collaborative museum practice.

The role involves examining, documenting, treating paintings, developing treatment plans, producing detailed documentation, and mentoring interns and associates, while contributing to research,

Qualifications

• Graduate degree in Conservation from a recognized program or equivalent education and training.
• Minimum five years (Associate) or ten years (Full) of post-graduate experience in painting conservation.
• Experience with modern and contemporary paintings strongly preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Responsibilities

• Examine, document, and treat paintings per AIC Ethics.
• Develop and execute treatment plans for historical to modern works.
• Produce thorough documentation including technical analysis and handling recommendations.
• Provide condition assessments for acquisitions and loans.
• Mentor interns, fellows, and emerging professionals.
• Engage in public-facing initiatives to advance conservation understanding.
