Associate, Communications Job Description: Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Communications Associate is focused on public relations and community engagement for mission critical projects, while also supporting broader corporate communications activities.

This position is required to be based on-site at our Dallas or Houston office location. They will serve as the day-to-day communications resource for assigned Technology projects, with travel to jobsites as needed (up to 20%). Responsibilities include stakeholder outreach, community bulletins and construction alerts, tracking and helping resolve community concerns, media coordination, and general communications support.

Working closely with the client’s PR and community outreach team and HITT project leadership, the Communications Associate will identify communications needs, support jobsite messaging and engagement, and help ensure project information is clear, timely, and aligned with company brand and communications standards.

The role will also support internal and external corporate communications assignments.

The position requires strong writing and editing skills, sound judgment and discretion, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

The ideal candidate is collaborative, solutions-oriented, and comfortable spending significant time in active construction environments.

They are a proactive self-starter who takes ownership, learns quickly, and is motivated to grow their communications skills and responsibilities over time.

JOB FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Technology Client PR & Community Relations (70%)
  • Serve as the embedded, on-site communications and community relations resource for assigned data center projects, often visiting jobsites to understand upcoming construction activity, anticipate community impacts, and support logistics alignment and issue-reduction planning before work proceeds.
  • Coordinate communications around grading, material handling, and other visible construction activities, including on-site and off-site operations that may affect neighboring properties or public perception.
  • Support proactive dust and site-impact communications, including frontage dust and silt controls, airborne dust mitigation, and high-height temporary fencing requirements.
  • Partner with the client on implementation and communication of the on-site signage and route-control program, including roadway signage, access routes, and traffic-flow expectations.
  • Coordinate communications related to frontage and off-site traffic management, bussing, crew activity, and other highly visible project operations to help minimize neighborhood disruption.
  • Write and distribute community bulletins, construction alerts, and other outreach materials addressing noise, dust, traffic, road closures, changes to work hours, and other anticipated impacts in coordination with the client-led outreach team.
  • Build and maintain relationships with neighboring residents, community associations, local businesses, and municipal stakeholders adjacent to active projects.
  • Support community meetings, open houses, and neighborhood briefings; document questions, concerns, and commitments and track follow-up items through resolution.
  • Manage community questions and complaints related to construction activity, including noise, dust, traffic, and site operations; route issues to the appropriate client and project teams and follow through until resolved.
  • Monitor local social media, news coverage, and community forums for project sentiment and emerging concerns, escalating potential public relations risks to the Communications Manager and Technology client as appropriate.
  • Route on-site media inquiries to the corporate spokesperson and coordinate safe, authorized, PPE-compliant site visits for approved media.
  • Support client-facing reporting on community outreach, stakeholder engagement, construction-impact communications, and issue resolution.
General Communications Support (30%)
  • Write, edit, and proofread internal content—articles, announcements, leadership messages, and companywide emails—in the company voice.
  • Contribute content to the weekly company newsletter and the monthly Team Member Spotlight features.
  • Support internal campaigns and communications projects from planning through execution and recap.
  • Maintain assigned pages on the company intranet (Blueprint), including document swaps, text updates, and organization chart updates.
  • Attend project meetings to take notes, distribute minutes, and organize jobsite photo archives.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, English, or related fields.
  • 2-4 years’ experience in public relations, community relations, or public affairs, or in corporate communications with public-facing responsibility; agency, municipal, or infrastructure outreach experience valued.
  • Experience in a fast-paced B2B or professional services environment; architecture/engineering/construction (AEC) experience preferred but not required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills required.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write clear, plain-language community bulletins and construction alerts for non-technical neighborhood audiences.
  • Intellectual curiosity about community relations, construction operations, and the mission critical industry and data center projects.
  • Ability to turn construction schedule and activity changes into resident-ready notices on short deadline, and to produce recurring internal content such as newsletters and announcements.
  • Discretion and sound judgment when handling sensitive internal information, leadership communications, and community inquiries.
  • Familiarity with company intranets, email marketing systems, org chart software, and basic photo archiving.
  • Working knowledge of SharePoint or comparable intranet platforms, email distribution tools, and presentation development programs; basic video or audio production experience a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required; proficiency in Adobe CC a plus.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects with changing priorities.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage recurring deliverables across a variety of functions.
  • Willingness to work on-site at project field offices on a regular basis and to comply with all jobsite safety and PPE requirements.
  • Comfort with sustained in-person community interaction—walking the jobsite, staffing neighborhood meetings, and responding to resident concerns directly.
