Job summary

Sight & Sound in Pennsylvania is seeking a skilled technician to operate CNC routers, hot wires, and laser cutters for scenic construction. The role involves programming toolpaths with CAM software, supporting 3D printing, and collaborating with artists, engineers, and carpenters to plan build methods.

Applicants should have strong CAD experience (SolidWorks, Rhino3D, MODO, BobCAD/CAM is a plus), be comfortable with geometry, and be able to work on-site in a fast-paced shop.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Operate CNC routers, hot wires, and laser cutter.
• Collaborate with Artists, Engineers, and Carpenters to plan break down and construction methods for scenic elements.
• Program toolpaths for CNC machines using CAM software.
• Program, run, and maintain all 3D printing capabilities for the Production team.
• Manage cloud-based 3D prints and ensure quality control.
• Inspect and maintain machinery; keep shop organized and safe.

Job description

Responsible for assisting in producing specified foam and wood parts for scenic construction by utilizing CAD/CAM software to program and operate CNC routers and CNC hot wires. Also, responsible for 3D printing process and maintaining all printers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Operate CNC routers, hotwires, and laser cutter.
• Work with Artist, Engineers, and Carpenters to strategize break down and construction methods for scenic elements.
• Use Cam software to program toolpaths for CNC machines.
• Programming, running, and maintaining all 3D printing capabilities for the Production team.
• Utilize software to program 3D prints to run on the cloud.
• Perform regular inspections and maintenance on machines.
• Maintain an efficient, organized, and safe shop space.

Prerequisites:

• High proficiency in computer use, typing, and navigation
• Experience in 3D Software such as but not limited to Solidworks, MODO,
  Rhino3D/RhinoCAM, BobCAD/CAM is helpful
• Prior experience in 3D printing
• Knowledge of and/or experience with CNC machining equipment such as routers and hot wires preferred
• Working knowledge of geometry and trigonometry is helpful
• Knowledge of basic computer programming is helpful

The physical demands of this position are active in nature. You will be expected to be on your feet frequently, walk and stand regularly, consistently communicate with team members using a radio, work indoors, use ladders and other lift equipment, operate heavy machinery and power tools, and frequently lift/exert up to 50 lbs. of force.
