Job summary

HDR, an employee-owned firm, seeks an Associate Civic Principal in Minnesota to lead civic projects across the Great Plains region. You will build a client base, steer project teams, and shape the direction of HDR's civic practice.

You will develop capture strategies, manage engagements, mentor staff, and represent HDR at industry events, while upholding HDR’s collaborative culture and commitment to quality results.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• 7 years of related experience.
• Minimum 2 years project management experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to collaborate with design teams.
• Commitment to HDR’s employee-owned culture.

Role Summary

As Associate Civic Principal, you will guide the direction of the civic sector in the local region, develop a client base, and contribute to the growth of the Civic Team.

Responsibilities

• Lead business development activities, including pursuing and managing new client opportunities.
• Assist the local Civic Principal in achieving net fees booked goals.
• Create and lead capture plans, qualifications, and proposals for civic clients.
• Develop interview strategies and implement them.
• Use internal HDR marketing processes—GNG, fee development/approval, risk awareness, and data maintenance.
• Serve as project manager or other appropriate roles, preparing and negotiating contracts.
• Maintain project oversight to ensure technical quality, financial performance, and schedule adherence.
• Engage clients proactively, keeping regular communication.
• Provide mentorship and support to health staff and project teams.
• Develop abstracts and presentations for conferences and industry events to promote sector messages.
• Cultivate an industry partner network for intelligence gathering and strategic development.
• Participate in local industry organizations.
