Job summary

Spencer West in New York City seeks a talented Litigation Associate to support a growing practice in complex commercial litigation. You will handle matters from inception through resolution, drafting pleadings and briefs, and coordinating with clients, regulators, and courts.

This role offers direct client contact, substantial responsibility, and opportunities to develop business and client relationships through the firm’s development program. Hybrid work and court appearances are expected.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the New York State Bar in good standing.
• Eligibility to appear before New York state and federal courts.
• Excellent legal writing, analytical, and advocacy skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage and support commercial litigation matters from inception through resolution.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests, and responses.
• Conduct legal research and prepare strategic legal analysis.
• Support SEC investigations, regulatory inquiries, and compliance matters.
• Participate in hearings, depositions, mediations, and court appearances.
• Assist with corporate governance, securities, and transactional matters as required.
• Communicate directly with clients, opposing counsel, regulators, and courts.
• Collaborate with lawyers across Spencer West's global platform.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a talented and commercially minded Litigation Associate attorney to join our New York office. The successful candidate will support our growing Litigation practice, working directly with clients on a wide variety of matters including:

• Complex commercial litigation
• Business litigation and business torts
• Securities litigation and regulatory matters
• SEC investigations and compliance
• Corporate governance and shareholder disputes
• Investment fund and private capital matters

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and support commercial litigation matters from inception through resolution.

About you

We are particularly interested in candidates who have received strong foundational legal training and who are looking to broaden their experience in a dynamic Litigation practice.

Typically, candidates will have 2-5 years' experience at an Am Law 100 or other large national/international law firm or a boutique businesslitigation-focused practice.

Required:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the New York State Bar in good standing.
• Eligibility to appear before New York state and federal courts.
• Excellent legal writing, analytical, and advocacy skills.

Preferred:

• Experience before the New York Supreme Court Commercial Division.
• Experience with federal court litigation.
• Familiarity with securities regulatory matters and SEC proceedings.
• Deposition and court appearance experience.

Package

• Base salary of $180,000-$210,000, depending on litigation experience.
• Annual discretionary performance bonus which includes billable hour component

Location & Hybrid Working

This position is based in our New York office with a hybrid working model. Candidates should be located within commuting distance of New York City and willing to attend court appearances, client meetings, and office-based collaboration as required.
