Job description

Associate Attorney - Medical Malpractice
Tacoma, WA | Hybrid

I'm partnering with one of Washington's premier litigation defense firms to identify a talented Associate Attorney with a strong interest in medical malpractice defense and trial advocacy.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an attorney who wants more than just case management. The firm is nationally recognized for its work defending physicians, hospitals, healthcare systems, and medical professionals in high-exposure, complex medical malpractice matters. Associates are given meaningful responsibility early, with direct involvement in litigation strategy, client counseling, depositions, courtroom appearances, and trial preparation.

If your long-term goal is to become a skilled trial lawyer and work alongside attorneys who are regularly in court defending some of the region's most challenging healthcare liability cases, this opportunity deserves your attention.

The Opportunity

You’ll join a highly regarded litigation team representing:

  • Physicians and physician groups
  • Hospitals and healthcare systems
  • Nurses and allied healthcare providers
  • Businesses and organizations facing complex liability claims

While medical malpractice defense is a primary focus, you’ll also gain exposure to:

  • General liability defense
  • Personal injury litigation
  • Wrongful death claims
  • Employment-related disputes
  • Commercial litigation matters
What You’ll Do
  • Defend healthcare providers and institutions in complex medical malpractice litigation
  • Manage cases through all phases of litigation
  • Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery
  • Conduct legal research and develop case strategy
  • Take and defend depositions, including expert and treating provider depositions
  • Work closely with medical experts and healthcare professionals
  • Participate in mediations, arbitrations, hearings, and trials
  • Maintain direct client contact and provide strategic litigation guidance
  • Collaborate with experienced trial attorneys on high-stakes matters
What We’re Looking For
  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Active Washington State Bar membership in good standing
  • 3+ years of civil litigation experience
  • Insurance defense and/or medical malpractice experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of civil procedure, evidence, and trial strategy
  • Excellent legal writing and oral advocacy skills
  • Experience handling discovery, depositions, and motion practice
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities
  • Professional, client-focused communication skills
  • Genuine interest in courtroom advocacy and trial work
Why Attorneys Are Interested in This Firm
  • One of the leading medical malpractice defense practices in Washington
  • Opportunity to work on sophisticated, high-exposure healthcare litigation
  • Direct mentorship from accomplished trial attorneys
  • Real courtroom and trial experience, not just back-office litigation support
  • Early responsibility and client interaction
  • Collaborative culture with strong professional development opportunities
  • Clear path for long-term growth and advancement

This position is ideal for a litigation attorney who is passionate about medical malpractice defense, enjoys working with healthcare clients, and wants to build a long-term career as a trial lawyer handling some of the most complex cases in the Pacific Northwest.

Benefits
  • Salary + Potential for Bonus
  • Health and dental benefits
  • Parking or commuter benefits
  • Paid time off, and 11 paid holidays per year.
  • After one year of employment, employees are eligible for our 401(k) plan with a firm contribution of 7% of salary.
  • A hybrid work environment allowing for flexibility in remote and in-office work arrangements, based on needs of the firm.
