Job description

ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY, LITIGATION & LEGAL WRITING

We are seeking a motivated Associate Attorney with exceptional legal research, analysis, and persuasive writing skills to join Turnbull Brockmeyer Law Group.

Applicants must be admitted to practice law in Maryland or be awaiting Maryland Bar admission.

This is an IN-PERSON position at our Towson or Baltimore City location. Applicants must live within a reasonable commuting distance or have definite plans to relocate before beginning employment.

STRONG LITIGATION WRITING SKILLS ARE ESSENTIAL.

We are particularly interested in attorneys who enjoy researching complicated legal issues, developing persuasive arguments, drafting substantive motions and briefs, and advocating for clients through effective written and oral advocacy.

Prior litigation experience is strongly preferred, but we will consider newer attorneys who demonstrate exceptional legal writing abilities, strong analytical skills, and a genuine interest in litigation.

ABOUT TURNBULL BROCKMEYER LAW GROUP

Turnbull Brockmeyer Law Group is a growing, high-volume litigation firm with a long history of representing clients throughout Maryland.

Our attorneys bring more than 160 years of combined litigation experience, handling matters involving personal injury, medical malpractice, workers' compensation, criminal defense, family law, and general civil litigation.

We are trial lawyers. We prepare our cases with the expectation that they may ultimately be presented to a judge or jury.

We are looking for an attorney who understands that strong litigation begins long before anyone walks into a courtroom. Effective advocacy requires careful preparation, thorough research, thoughtful legal analysis, and persuasive writing.

Our firm handles a diverse caseload, offering attorneys the opportunity to work on challenging legal issues across multiple practice areas.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Associate Attorney will work directly with our attorneys on active litigation matters, including:

  • Conducting comprehensive legal research and analysis
  • Drafting persuasive motions, memoranda, briefs, pleadings, and other court filings
  • Developing and presenting written legal arguments
  • Researching complicated legal and procedural issues
  • Preparing dispositive motions, motions in limine, and other substantive litigation filings
  • Reviewing and analyzing discovery, deposition testimony, medical records, and other evidence
  • Drafting discovery requests, responses, and objections
  • Assisting with litigation strategy and case development
  • Preparing legal arguments for hearings, depositions, mediations, and trials
  • Identifying legal issues and developing arguments supported by applicable statutes, rules, and case law
  • Working collaboratively with other attorneys on complex litigation matters
  • Managing multiple assignments while meeting court deadlines
  • Communicating effectively with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and court personnel
  • Participating in hearings, depositions, negotiations, and courtroom proceedings as appropriate
EXCEPTIONAL LEGAL WRITING SKILLS REQUIRED

This is a writing-intensive litigation position.

We are seeking an attorney who enjoys legal writing and understands how to use it as a powerful tool of advocacy.

The successful candidate must be able to analyze a complicated factual record, identify the controlling legal issues, research applicable authority, and develop a clear, organized, and persuasive argument.

We want an attorney who can do more than summarize case law. We want someone who can apply the law to the facts, recognize weaknesses in an opposing argument, anticipate counterarguments, and advocate effectively for a client's position.

Strong grammar, citation accuracy, organization, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complicated legal concepts clearly are essential.

Experience drafting substantive litigation motions, appellate briefs, dispositive motions, and complex legal memoranda is particularly valuable.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Admitted to practice law in Maryland or awaiting Maryland Bar admission
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited U.S. law school
  • Exceptional legal research and writing skills
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities
  • Ability to develop persuasive written legal arguments
  • Excellent understanding of legal procedure and litigation principles
  • Strong attention to detail, grammar, organization, and accuracy
  • Ability to independently research and resolve unfamiliar legal issues
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple cases, assignments, and deadlines
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume litigation environment
  • Willingness to collaborate with attorneys and support staff
  • Strong work ethic, initiative, and commitment to client advocacy
  • Prior litigation experience strongly preferred
IN-PERSON, TOWSON OR BALTIMORE CITY

This position is based in our Towson or Baltimore City office and requires in-person attendance.

Applicants must be able to reliably commute to their assigned office location.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We want an attorney who likes to write.

Someone who enjoys researching an issue, finding the controlling authority, identifying the strongest arguments, and putting together a persuasive motion or memorandum.

We are looking for someone who is intellectually curious, motivated, organized, and comfortable working independently while also collaborating with experienced trial attorneys.

You should be willing to take ownership of assignments, meet deadlines, ask questions when necessary, and work through difficult legal issues.

We value attorneys who are strong advocates, both on paper and in the courtroom.

You do not need decades of courtroom experience. You do need the ability to think critically, write persuasively, work hard, and take pride in the quality of your legal work.

WHY JOIN OUR FIRM?

Turnbull Brockmeyer Law Group offers the opportunity to work directly with experienced trial attorneys on substantive litigation matters.

Our diverse practice allows associates to develop their writing, research, advocacy, and litigation skills across multiple areas of law.

As our firm continues to grow, we are looking for attorneys who want to grow with us, contribute meaningfully to our cases, and become an important part of our litigation team.

If you are an attorney who enjoys the intellectual challenge of litigation, takes pride in persuasive legal writing, and wants to work in a busy trial practice, we encourage you to apply.
