Job description

Business Law Group is a boutique transactional firm serving founders and growth-stage businesses across Louisiana. We don't do personal injury, family law, or criminal defense — our work is business contracts, trademarks, M&A, commercial leasing, business owner estate planning, and ATC/liquor licensing. If you want to spend your days in litigation, this isn't it.

We're looking for an associate who can own client matters end-to-end — drafting, negotiating, and advising — without needing every step spelled out.

We built this firm to give founders a lawyer who talks like a business person, not a law school lecture. No motivational posters, no billable-hour theater — just clear work, done right, delivered on time.

Five things matter more here than anything on a resume:

Client-obsessed. You want the client's business or idea to actually grow — not just the matter closed and filed.

Curious. You ask instead of guess. You look something up instead of winging it. You ask 10 questions before the assignment event begins and you ask 10 more after you have completed it.

Kind. To clients who are stressed about a deal falling apart, and to teammates who are behind on something.

Direct. You'll debate a strategy openly, take feedback that isn't glowing without getting defensive, and own a mistake out loud instead of burying it.

Passionate. You write a love letter to the practice of law every Valentine's day, because

If that's how you already operate, you'll fit in fast.

WHAT YOU'LL ACTUALLY DO
  • Draft and review business contracts: NDAs, vendor agreements, independent contractor agreements
  • Handle trademark filings and infringement matters
  • Support M&A deals: due diligence, buy-sell agreements, business acquisitions and sales
  • Review and negotiate commercial leases (tenant-side)
  • Assist with business owner estate planning and succession matters
  • Navigate Louisiana ATC liquor licensing applications and issues
  • Keep contemporaneous billable time entries and help keep client invoices accurate and on schedule
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
  • Louisiana bar admission (or eligibility to waive in)
  • 1-4 years of transactional experience — contracts, corporate, or real estate background all welcome
  • You catch the misplaced comma, the undefined term, the clause that contradicts page 12. This is non-negotiable for this role.
  • You can take a messy set of facts from a client call and turn it into a clean, organized memo the same day
  • Comfortable talking directly to founders and business owners — plain language, no jargon-for-jargon's-sake
  • Reliable work habits: you track your own time as you go, hit deadlines without reminders, and follow through on the boring parts of a matter (billing, file notes, follow-up emails) as carefully as the drafting
