Job description

Law of the Rockies in Gunnison and Crested Butte, Colorado

The Firm

Law of the Rockies provides litigation, transactional, and general counsel legal services to public and private sector clients throughout the state of Colorado. With offices in Gunnison and Crested Butte, the Firm’s practice is concentrated in the Gunnison basin, with a significant presence also in the Arkansas River Basin, the San Luis Valley, and other areas of the Western Slope. Substantial practice areas include real estate (purchase and sale, development, leasing), water law, local government general counsel, commercial litigation, estate planning, and criminal defense. The firm currently has four full-time practicing members, one full-time associate, and support staff.

The Position

The Firm is seeking a full-time associate attorney. The associate will have the opportunity to work on projects across all the Firm’s practice areas, and over time may choose to concentrate on those practice areas to which the associate is best suited. The Firm’s associates enjoy autonomy and are given significant responsibility. Opportunities to lead projects, interact with clients, appear in court, and attain partnership come faster here than in the typical firm. The ideal candidate will be a problem-solver and self-motivated, with a desire for a long-term relationship with the Firm and a commitment to living in the Gunnison Valley. Like the Firm’s current attorneys, a successful candidate will be someone who works hard while at the office, yet values the unique opportunities that living in the Gunnison Valley provides.

This opportunity does not require a specific number of years of experience in any particular practice area. While experience in the Firm’s core practice areas is preferred, the Firm will consider any candidate that possesses the skills, character, and personality that make them a good fit with the Firm.

A successful candidate must be able to demonstrate: Excellent legal research and writing skills, a track record of academic and/or professional achievement, the ability to work independently while also collaborating with co-workers and clients to accomplish objectives, and proficiency with email, word processing, and legal research software applications.

The Firm requires a minimum of 125 billable hours per month.

Compensation

The salary range begins at $125,000. The initial base salary could be higher depending on experience. There will also be opportunities for base salary raises and additional (bonus) compensation based on productivity. The Firm provides a SIMPLE IRA retirement plan, flexible paid time off, paid holidays, and paid Bar Association Dues/Annual Attorney Registration Fees/CLEs.
