Role Description

The Associate Attorney role is a full-time, on-site position based in Evansville, IN. The Associate Attorney will represent veterans in disability benefits claims, including analyzing case files, reviewing medical and service records, and developing case strategies. Day-to-day responsibilities include providing legal advice to clients, drafting legal documents and briefs, and preparing cases for hearings and appeals. The role involves conducting legal research, communicating with clients and internal staff, and participating in negotiations or settlement discussions when appropriate. The Associate Attorney will collaborate with other attorneys, case managers, and support staff to ensure high-quality, timely representation for clients.

Qualifications
  • Strong foundation in Law with the ability to interpret statutes and regulations relevant to veterans disability benefits.
  • Experience or coursework in Labor and Employment Law and related practice areas that may intersect with veterans’ claims.
  • Ability to provide clear, practical Legal Advice to clients and explain complex legal issues in accessible language.
  • Proficient in legal Research, including case law, administrative decisions, and regulatory materials.
  • Effective Negotiation skills for handling settlements, discussions with opposing parties, and advocacy on behalf of clients.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to at least one state bar (or eligibility and intent to obtain admission).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including drafting briefs, motions, and client correspondence.
  • High level of professionalism, ethical judgment, and commitment to serving veterans and their families.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an office environment and manage multiple cases and deadlines.
  • Prior experience in administrative law, disability law, or veteran-related legal matters is preferred but not required.
