About the Opportunity:
An established Denver litigation firm is seeking an Associate Attorney to join its insurance defense practice.
This is an opportunity for an experienced attorney who enjoys managing cases independently, developing litigation strategy, working directly with clients and carriers, and handling matters from inception through resolution.
Practice Areas:
- General liability
- Coverage and related civil litigation matters
Responsibilities:
- Manage a portfolio of civil litigation matters through multiple stages of the case lifecycle, from pleadings and discovery through settlement or trial preparation.
- Draft and file litigation documents, including pleadings, written discovery, discovery responses, motions, briefs, and proposed orders.
- Drive discovery strategy and execution by preparing discovery plans, analyzing productions, and coordinating third-party subpoenas as needed.
- Prepare for and participate in depositions by developing outlines, organizing exhibits, drafting notices, and summarizing testimony for case strategy.
- Prepare for and argue appropriate hearings by researching issues, drafting supporting papers, and coordinating evidence and witnesses.
- Support mediations and settlement negotiations by evaluating liability and damages, preparing position statements, and documenting resolution terms.
- Develop trial preparation materials, including witness outlines, exhibit lists, motions in limine support, and pretrial filings.
- Maintain accurate case files, calendaring, and deadline controls to ensure timely filings and disciplined caseload management.
- Communicate case status and recommendations through concise written updates and timely reporting aligned to client expectations.
- Partner with supervising attorneys to refine strategy, address risk, and deliver efficient, high‑quality advocacy.
Required Skills:
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- 3+ years of meaningful civil litigation experience with increasing ownership of case responsibilities.
- Experience working across multiple stages of the litigation lifecycle, including drafting, discovery, motion practice support, and case resolution activities.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with discovery, depositions, motion practice, hearings, mediations, settlement negotiations, trial preparation, and client/carrier reporting.
- Strong caseload management skills, including reliable calendaring, deadline discipline, and accurate timekeeping to support billable targets.
- Exposure to defense‑side or risk‑oriented litigation such as product liability, professional liability, premises liability, public entity defense, commercial litigation, real estate litigation, employment litigation, personal injury defense, coverage disputes, first‑party property, or bad faith.
