Role Description

The Associate Attorney will handle a variety of legal matters for Common Interest Developments, including drafting and reviewing governing documents, preparing legal opinions, and advising boards and community managers on compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Day-to-day responsibilities include legal research, drafting pleadings and correspondence, managing case files, and participating in negotiations and dispute resolution related to association governance, enforcement, and labor and employment issues as they arise. The role also involves communicating with clients to provide clear legal advice, attending meetings as needed, and collaborating with colleagues to develop effective strategies. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Carlsbad, CA, requiring regular presence in the office and occasional local travel for client meetings or hearings.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in Law, including knowledge of statutes and regulations relevant to Common Interest Developments.
• Experience or coursework in Labor and Employment Law, particularly as it relates to community associations and their employees or contractors.
• Ability to provide clear, practical Legal Advice to boards, community managers, and other stakeholders.
• Proficiency in legal Research, including case law, statutory interpretation, and regulatory analysis.
• Effective Negotiation skills for resolving disputes, drafting settlements, and managing contested matters.
• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active membership in the State Bar of California (or eligibility to obtain).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong drafting and analytical abilities.
• Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple matters and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a team and interact professionally with clients and opposing counsel.
• Prior experience with homeowners’ associations, condominium associations, real estate, or community association law is preferred.
