The Metropolitan Alliance of Police (MAP) is dedicated to representing law enforcement professionals through collective bargaining, legal advocacy, and support services. We are committed to ensuring our members receive fair representation, strong contracts, and effective legal support.

Position Overview

We are seeking an entry-level Associate Attorney to join our legal team. This role is ideal for recent law school graduates or attorneys with minimal experience who are eager to gain hands-on experience in labor law and contract negotiations. The Associate Attorney will provide legal counsel to MAP members, assist in arbitration and court proceedings, and support drafting and negotiating collective bargaining agreements.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in representing MAP members in legal matters including grievance arbitrations, contract negotiations, and administrative hearings.
• Provide legal advice under the guidance of senior attorneys regarding employment law, disciplinary proceedings, and labor relations.
• Conduct legal research, draft memoranda, prepare legal documents, and briefs.
• Assist in developing litigation strategies and defenses.
• Support collective bargaining negotiations to secure favorable contract terms for MAP members.
• Assist in advising union representatives and members on legal rights and obligations.
• Attend meetings, hearings, and other engagements as a legal representative of MAP.
• Maintain case files, track deadlines, and ensure timely follow-ups on legal matters.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the Illinois bar or pending bar results with plans to obtain a license to practice law.
• Admission to the Indiana bar is preferred.
• Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with union representatives, members, and stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Interest or coursework in labor/employment law, public-sector employment issues, or union representation.
• Experience in moot court, mock trial, or internships related to labor law.
