Job summary

Spalding University in Louisville, KY is seeking a full-time Associate Athletic Trainer to coordinate a comprehensive sports medicine program for its athletics department. The role involves injury prevention, emergency care, rehabilitation, and supervision of graduate athletic training students.

  • Supervise graduate students in a new MS Athletic Training program.
  • Communicate with athletes, coaches, families, and physicians; travel and on-call duties.

JOB SUMMARY

The full-time Associate Athletic Trainer will maintain and coordinate a comprehensive sports medicine program for Spalding University athletics under the leadership of the Head Athletic Trainer.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform professional and administrative services essential for the success of the program under the supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer
  • Duties will include injury prevention, emergency care, first aid and physical rehabilitation of injuries incurred by Spalding University's intercollegiate athletes
  • Will organize and conduct medically prescribed sports rehabilitation and conditioning programs following an injury and be responsible for appropriate organization and implementation of athletic insurance claim paperwork and follow-up as necessary
  • Also supervise and participate in the teaching of graduate athletic training students enrolled in an innovative, new entry‑level Master of Science Degree Program in Athletic Training. Some weekends and overnight travel are required
  • Other Duties and Responsibilities include:
  • Practice and game supervision/coverage
  • Effective communication with athletes, coaches, families, university officials, and physicians
  • Referring athletes for appropriate diagnostic, follow-up procedures, and injury tracking.
Qualifications

SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicants must be certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) and eligible for licensure in the state of Kentucky
  • A master’s degree and previous collegiate athletic training experience is preferred
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication, multitasking, and budget management skills in addition to knowledge of the NCAA
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to multitask
  • Proficiency in Microsoft word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Knowledge of and understanding of NCAA rules and regulations
  • Understanding of and/or willingness to learn an NCAA Division III academic and sports culture
  • A strong background in professional athletic training
  • Past work with student-athletes at the high school and/or collegiate level
  • Commitment to inclusiveness and collegiality in personal and professional work and mentoring students and faculty on the importance of multicultural and multidisciplinary applications
  • Commitment and alignment with Spalding University’s Mission is essential
  • Regular or daily contact with administration, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Regular contact with the general public.
  • Must be able to work with, listen to, appreciate, and collaborate and lead with diverse populations
  • An understanding and ability to apply and enforce university Covid-19 and NCAA protocols
INTERRELATIONS
  • Working closely and communicating often and openly with the Head Athletic Trainer (the position’s supervisor)
  • Ability to listen to, take direction and guidance from, and be held accountable by the Head Athletic Trainer
  • The ability to effectively communicate with and solve problems for diverse groups, including prospective or current students, fellow counselors and support staff, alumni, and other constituencies
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in an environment characterized by large workloads, deadline pressures and high-performance standards.
