Job summary

Ramsey County's County Attorney's Office seeks an Associate Assistant County Attorney to provide legal services to the County Board and departments, prosecute criminal cases, and represent the County in civil litigation. This is entry level within the class series, with opportunities for advancement as you gain experience.

Key duties include preparing cases, representing the County at hearings, advising less experienced staff, negotiating settlements, and drafting legislation.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited college of law.
• Licensed to practice law in Minnesota and completion of 45 credits of continuing legal education every three years.
• Active Minnesota Attorney license required with resume attached.

Responsibilities

• Prepare cases for judicial and administrative proceedings by interviewing clients and witnesses, investigating facts, researching law, drafting pleadings, subpoenaing and interviewing witnesses, and writing legal memoranda and briefs.
• Try assigned criminal or civil cases and represent the County at judicial hearings by presenting facts, analyzing evidence and information and advising on appeals.
• Advise less experienced staff attorneys on trial strategy, analysis and presentation of evidence; assign work and review opinions and settlements.
