Job summary

LOUISIANA SPECIAL SCHOOL DISTRICT seeks an Assistive Technology Regional Specialist to drive AT integration across curricula for students with disabilities in Louisiana.

You will train instructional teams, lead a regional AT consortium, and support districts with AT assessments and AEM initiatives. This 12-month, unclassified role requires a state teaching certificate and collaboration with administrators.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or higher in education/allied health technology or closely related field or licensure in allied health profession.
Minimum of three (3) years of experience providing services in Assistive Technology to individuals with disabilities.
Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate.
Holds a current Louisiana teaching certificate.
Valid Out-of-State Teaching Certificate.
Alternative Certification Candidate: bachelor’s degree and enrollment in an approved alternative teacher prep program.

Responsibilities

Provide training to instructional team members and families in the use of Assistive Technology.
Serve as Consortium AT team leader for designated parishes.
Serve as AT consultant to school districts in assigned areas.
Assist districts in conducting AT assessments of students.
Gather and maintain data on Accessible Educational Materials (AEM) activities.
Collaborate within the AT team in each district.
Contribute to developing a website for Accessible Educational Materials (AEM).
Assist in establishing AEM Centers and provide resources and services to staff and families.
Support Professional Developments for districts on AT and AEM.
Develop or facilitate distance learning opportunities for staff and families.

This is Unclassified 12-month 8 hours working position. Occasional travel may be required.

Professional Responsibilities

The employee will develop and promote the use of Assistive Technology (AT) integration into overall curriculum of the instructors and families of students with disabilities in Louisiana. Employee must be able to perform these assigned duties without significant risk of substantial harm to his/her own safety/security and the safety/security of others.
