Position Overview

Kenyon College invites applications for the position of Women’s Assistant Basketball Coach. This full-time, 10-month position offers benefits and reports to the Head Women’s Basketball Coach. The role involves supporting the NCAA D-III Women’s Basketball program in compliance with NCAA, NCAC, and college policies. Responsibilities include coaching, leadership development, scouting, recruiting, instructing, strength training, travel arrangements, equipment management, and alumni engagement. Additional duties may include game management, facility oversight, teaching, and administrative tasks. The candidate should embody the department's mission of fostering learning and community, emphasizing values such as citizenship, sportsmanship, resiliency, and teamwork, within Kenyon’s campus culture. A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is essential.

Essential Functions
  1. Assist the Head Coach with coaching and program management.
  2. Instruct student-athletes in basketball fundamentals, with a focus on post players.
  3. Conduct film analysis and prepare scouting reports.
  4. Develop and implement strength and agility programs in collaboration with the strength and conditioning coach.
  5. Manage team travel logistics, including accommodations and transportation.
  6. Recruit academically and athletically strong students using ARMS software, including creating promotional materials.
  7. Maintain accurate records of purchases and expenses.
  8. Inventory and ensure safety of uniforms and equipment.
  9. Coordinate with athletic trainers to support student-athlete welfare.
  10. Stay informed on coaching best practices and participate in NCAC governance meetings.
  11. Perform additional duties related to facility and game management as assigned.
Other Expectations
  1. Contribute to the Athletics, Fitness and Recreation team, providing leadership and program support.
  2. Build collaborative relationships with campus partners.
  3. Participate in departmental and college committees and initiatives.
  4. Engage with students, staff, and faculty regularly and visibly.
  5. Assist with special projects as needed.
  6. Adhere to all relevant policies and regulations, including NCAA and conference rules.
  7. Support the department’s mission and values.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Oversee student workers for game day management and videotaping.
Working Conditions
  • Heavy lifting and equipment management may be required.
  • Irregular hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and during breaks.
  • Travel for contests, recruiting, and meetings is necessary.
  • College driver certification is preferred.
Qualifications
  1. Coaching experience, especially with post players.
  2. Collegiate playing experience.
  3. Experience in recruiting student-athletes is preferred.
  4. CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required (post-hire completion acceptable).
