Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Head Women’s Basketball Coach, the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach will assist in the administration and leadership of the Johnson C. Smith University’s DII Women’s Basketball program. Responsibilities includes but are not limited to: providing coaching and instruction, women’s basketball operations, recruiting, player development, scouting, preparation of practice activities and other duties as assigned by the Head Women’s Basketball Coach.SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Develops and implements programs to ensure the academic success of the women’s basketball team; assists with a variety of programs in support of student athlete academic success, retention, and progress toward degree completion.
Manages and coordinates team activities, team bonding community service and sponsorships.
Maintains current knowledge of NCAA, CIAA, and Johnson C. Smith University rules and regulations.
Assists with game day preparation and practice schedules, assist with weekly scouting reports organizes game day locker room, attire, and appearance.
Assists with out of season planning, workouts, and player development.
Manages travel and lodging logistics for official visits, student-athlete host and off campus recruiting and team travel.
Serves in on-call rotation for on campus and off campus room and curfew checks.
Identifies and discuss behavioral issues impacting individual players and/or on the team with the head coach; addresses issues with student athletes as necessary.
Manages practice players and team managers.
Provides regular updates to the head coach them on team performance, schedule changes, and other relevant information.
Provides leadership for Women’s basketball operations; Coordinating travel logistics for the team including booking flights, hotels, buses, and rental cars; provides support to the team’s coaching staff by managing team schedules, tracking player performance during practice sessions, and arranging travel arrangements for away games.
Reviews game film and scouts opponents to help prepare the team for upcoming games.
Maintains records of game statistics, player performance, and team standing.
Ensures all team equipment is in good working condition and available for use.
Coordinating with student managers to help schedule practices and arrange travel arrangements for away games.
Coordinating with marketing staff to plan advertising campaigns and promotions for the school’s athletic programs.
Collaborates with University Communications and Marketing and the athletic department staff to manage the team’s social medial presence and cross-promote events on the official University accounts.
Manages photo albums on department drives and Google Drive; oversees graphics, photos and videography for all social media platforms.
Manages team promotions and advertisements; manages regular posting schedule of event promotions.
Reviews analytics to assess success and recommend improvements for future ads.
Develops strategies to increase social media followership and engagement; develops miscellaneous content to increase followership; hosts special programs, such as “Instagram Challenges;’ creates Facebook events for each hosted program; takes photos at events and upload albums to Facebook; manages social media engagement during events, such as Facebook Live and other live posts.
Monitors and respond to comments and direct messages in a timely manner.
Work with the University Communications and Marketing staff to promote Student Involvement at University wide events; makes occasional posts to cross-promote events hosted by other departments.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
An individual in this position is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Sometimes will be exposed to outdoor work in inclement and/or hot weather and seasonally be required to work extended days and weekends. There is considerable travel and frequent night and weekend hours involved.
Core Compentencies/SkillsBachelor’s degree; collegiate coaching and/or playing experience is required. The successful candidates must possess strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; the ability to recruit prospective student athletes; proficiency and thorough knowledge of the game of basketball; a commitment to excellence, sensitivity to cultural differences and a commitment to the mission and values of Johnson C. Smith University and the Department of Athletics. The position requires significant travel. Proficiency with computer applications, general office software and knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations required.
