Job Summary
The assistant women's basketball coach will assist the head coach in instructing and organizing the women's basketball program; furthermore, the assistant coach reports to the athletic director and head women's basketball coach. The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting in maintaining the integrity of the program, maintaining an exemplary student-athlete concept, and the personal development of the student-athletes. The assistant coach should model the NAIA Champions of Character core values and follow all rules and regulations pertaining to the NAIA.
Performance Evaluation Metrics
- Organize and execute at least, but not limited to two Community Service Projects within San Antonio city limits- one each semester
- Organize and execute at least, but not limited to, two recruiting events to: generate revenue for the program, get high school recruits on campus, build our recruiting network
- Oversee academics - facilitate study hall, grade checks, data collection, help ensure eligibility - with a program goal of a team GPA of 3.0 and NAIA Scholar Team recognition.
Essential Functions
- Assist in setting up all travel arrangements.
- Responsible for assisting with and staying within a zero based budget.
- Responsible for assisting in maintaining spreadsheets for equipment purchase, film exchange, scheduling, etc.
- Responsible for assisting with budget and reconciling accounts after all recruiting and athletic related trips.
- Serve as academic liaison between the student-athletes and faculty and staff.
- Responsible for setting up Individual Education Plans for each student-athlete.
- Responsible for providing administrative assistance to the Head Coach.
- Participates in public relations activities and fund raising.
- Ensures the highest professional standards and behavior with regard to adherence to NAIA rules and regulations.
- Monitor academic progress and eligibility status for student-athletes.
- Work as a liaison with the Campus Recreation Department on gym set-up and practice times.
- Coordinates special needs for home contest with visiting teams and Campus Recreation Department.
- Assists the Athletic Director and Trainer in preparing eligibility and insurance documents, transportation requests, and travel documentation on all student-athletes.
- Assists in special events and tournaments, championships, fundraisers, and/or clinics to include, but not limited to, major fundraisers, camps, and/or clinics.
- Subscribes and adheres to the NAIA Coaches Code of Conduct.
- Attend all scheduled meetings.
- Assist in enrolling student-athletes according to OLLU Admissions policies and standards.
- Adhere to Residence Life procedures to securing housing accommodations.
- Communicate effectively with all academic/faculty advisors, financial aid, business office, registrar and other university personnel.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assists the Head Basketball Coach in all areas of the basketball program.
- Responsible for setting up all pre-season strength and conditioning programs and works closely with the development of the student-athletes in this area.
- Responsible for setting up recruiting spreadsheets, organize mail-outs and aid the Head Coach in the recruitment of quality student-athletes that fit the mission of Our Lady of the Lake University.
- Serves as liaison for the university community of faculty, staff, students and administrators.
- Will adhere to university policies, state and federal laws concerning Title IX, HIPPA, and FERPA policies.
- Assist and maintain inventory at the beginning and end of the academic year.
- Assist Head Coach with conducting business within the limits of the allocated budget.
- Recruit within the limits of the scholarship budget.
- Support all athletic department activities and fundraisers.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of the fundamentals, technical aspects, and strategy for assigned sport.
- Ability to recruit and retain qualified athletes and to facilitate timely progress toward graduation.
- Knowledge and understanding of all rules and regulations pertaining to the NAIA division I level.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to operate the basketball program within the budget parameters.
- Understanding of and commitment to the catholic faith and its traditions.
- Ability to work with multiple other departments on campus.
- Excellent administrative, organizational, and communication skills.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred.
- One year of coaching experience with women or girls in college, national federation, or high school basketball is preferred.
- Office management and clerical experience required.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
