Job summary

YMCA of Montclair is seeking an Assistant Water Polo Coach to support the Head Coach with practices, drills, and supervision. The role emphasizes hands-on instruction, player development, and a positive team atmosphere aligned with our mission.

The position is part-time with evening and weekend availability. CPR/First Aid certification is required; lifeguard certification is preferred. Competitive hourly pay and YMCA benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of water polo fundamentals, gameplay strategy, and rules.
• CPR/First Aid certification required (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
• Lifeguard certification preferred but not required.
• Strong communication skills and ability to motivate and support youth participants.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and promote an inclusive team environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and leading water polo practices and skill-based drills.
• Provide individual and small-group instruction to support player development.
• Help supervise participants during practices, scrimmages, and events.
• Reinforce water polo fundamentals, rules, and sportsmanship.
• Assist with setup and breakdown of equipment and pool space.
• Support the Head Coach during games, clinics, and special events.
• Communicate observations and participants needs to the Head Coach.
• Uphold YMCA of Montclair safety standards, policies, and procedures.
• Serve as a positive role model reflecting YMCA values.
• Adhere to policies related to boundaries with members, volunteers, staff, and participants.
• Attend required Abuse Risk Management training and adhere to procedures.
