Job summary

YMCA of Montclair is seeking a Lifeguard I to maintain safe pool conditions and supervise staff as needed. You will ensure compliance with safety rules, assist with swim tests, and support the Aquatics Director on assigned tasks.

The role requires a minimum age of 16, lifeguard certification (YMCA/ARC), CPR/AED/First Aid, and annual Bloodborne Pathogens training, with a focus on active certifications and readiness.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• YMCA Lifeguard or ARC Lifeguard Certification required.
• CPR/AED, First Aid and Oxygen Administration certifications.
• Must maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
• Bloodborne Pathogens training annually.
• Maintain all required certifications in active status.

Responsibilities

• Supervise staff in the absence of management and maintain pool safety.
• Enforce safety rules, policies, and conduct swim tests as required.
• Operate as head lifeguard/shift supervisor when assigned.
• Perform equipment checks and ensure available, working gear.
• Check pool for hazards and report or correct as able.
• Conduct pool chemical testing and take corrective action as needed.
• Maintain accurate records per YMCA and Health Department codes.
• Attend monthly in-service training and mandatory staff meetings.
