Job Overview

WSP is seeking an Assistant Vice President, Electrical Engineer to join the Property & Buildings team in California. This senior role may be based at any WSP office in California.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate, review, and approve electrical design plans to ensure compliance with all applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Apply advanced electrical engineering techniques across all project phases, including concept development, preliminary and final design, procurement, construction, and operations.
  • Plan and incorporate future‑ready design strategies that address safety, functionality, resiliency, and long‑term performance of building systems.
  • Participate from project inception through completion, supporting the management of electrical design and construction activities.
  • Oversee and mentor cross‑functional engineering teams on mid‑ to large‑scale projects, including budgets, schedules, resource planning, quality control, and technical execution.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation, including reports, calculations, drawings, specifications, and presentations.
  • Provide key technical input on pursuits and proposals, supporting business development efforts and client interviews.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships and collaborate with internal leadership and external partners.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making in alignment with WSP’s Code of Conduct and corporate policies.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required to support business needs.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering.
  • 10+ years of relevant post‑education experience as an Electrical Engineer.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical design for building projects, especially within education, institutional, industrial, or commercial sectors, including experience with DSA‑regulated projects.
  • Strong understanding of applicable electrical codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Experience with electrical planning, design, and construction management across renovation and new‑build projects.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage multiple concurrent projects, and deliver high‑quality results.
  • Well‑established professional presence with a strong local network.
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and compliance with WSP health, safety, and conduct policies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • LEED AP certification.
  • 8+ years of Project Management experience on complex building projects.
  • Experience supporting client pursuits, proposals, and business growth initiatives.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $129,600‑$192,390
