Direct Reports: Program Staff and Volunteers

Compensation: $21.00-$23.00 (20 – 25 afternoon hours/week)

Job Description

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Orange Coast is looking for a great leader to join our dynamic team. We are a highly effective, results-driven, mission-focused organization and we need a high-functioning, energetic, organized and committed professional to fill the critical role of the Assistant Unit Director.

As Assistant Unit Director, you will be responsible for supporting the Unit Director with program operations as well as ensure all policies and procedures are in place. The Assistant Unit Director will work directly under the Unit Director and support with assessing program execution and provide feedback in where areas of improvement could be made. The Unit Director will be relying heavily on the Assistant Unit Director to be an extra pair of eyes and troubleshoot problems that may arise.

The Assistant Unit Director will provide support, coaching, and will lead by example to the other staff members. On occasion, the Assistant Unit Director may be asked to act as a substitute and work directly with a group of 20-25 students. The Assistant Unit Director will also be responsible for the management of volunteers and will oversee the screening, interviewing, processing, and exiting of all volunteers. Assistant Unit Director will take over management of the club site in the absences of the Unit Director. The Assistant Unit Director must be able to take direction from the Unit Director and respect the chain of command.

Key Roles & Responsibilities
  1. Supports in the planning, developing, implementing and evaluating the site’s overall programs, services and activities to ensure they meet stated objectives, member needs, and interests.
  2. Maintain and audit attendance that is mandated by the After School Safety & Enrichment (ASES) grant funding.
  3. Maintain and update accurate student records and files.
  4. Provides assistance in collecting and entering data and compiling regular reports reflecting all activities, attendance and participation to both the Club and District.
  5. Participate in staff development and training activities when needed during after-hours or on weekends.
  6. Exercise authority in problems relating to members; utilize guidance and discipline plan.
  7. Purchase or approve purchase of supplies and equipment.
  8. With the guidance of the Unit Director, helps ensure that administrative and operational systems are in place to maintain the operation of the physical properties and equipment of the site, including use of facilities by outside groups. Ensure compliance with Club and District policies.
  9. Assists in managing assigned site staff and volunteers by providing coaching and training opportunities. May be asked to assist in staff recruitment efforts.
  10. Develop partnerships with teachers, principals, parents, community leaders, and organizations.
  11. Develop and maintain public relations to increase the visibility of programs, services, and activities within the school site/club and the community.
  12. Assume other duties as assigned.
Job Skills & Requirements
  • A minimum of 48 college units, bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of two years work experience in non-profit/out of school time programming.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Detail oriented and able to enter data accurately and efficiently.
  • Have demonstrated organizational and project management abilities.
  • Exhibit the characteristics of strong leadership, patience, and effective communication.
  • Good interpersonal abilities – able to interact effectively with coworkers, students, parents, school personnel and the community.
  • Experience creating, organizing, implementing, and evaluating youth development programs.
  • Detail oriented and able to enter data accurately and effectively.
  • Spanish bilingual (preferred).
Physical Requirements

This position may require the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to 50 pounds.
