What you need to know

TTI is a Texas based agency. This position required the incumbent to work in-person 5 days a week at TTI HQ - CIR building. The salary range for position is commensurate. Final salary will be determined based on the applicant's qualifications and experience.

Job Summary

The Assistant Transportation Researcher, under general supervision, conducts transportation and pavement materials (asphalt binder and asphalt mixtures) related research using literature review, statistical analyses, and independent investigations. Assists with proposal preparation, data collection through lab binder, aggregates, and mixture testing and field visits, data analysis, and report preparation. Continued employment is dependent upon availability of funding and satisfactory performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conducts research studies, including basic and advanced asphalt binder, aggregates, and mixture testing, and statistical-based data analyses, literature reviews, and other related activities. (75%)
  • Assists with the preparation of written reports and other correspondence. (10 %)
  • Other duties as assigned. (15 %)
Required Education and Experience

Master’s Degree in civil engineering No experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledgeable in various asphalt binder and mixture research and testing methodologies Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to present information clearly and concisely. Ability to synthesize literature, research reports, and/or journal articles. Ability to present and write clearly and concisely.

Other Requirements
  • Work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends.
  • May be required to work in hot, cold, and extreme weather conditions.
  • Travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One (1) year of research experience in asphalt binder testing.
  • Strong background in civil material (asphalt binder) testing.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift very heavy materials.
  • Ability to perform common office functions.
  • Ability to frequently communicate with other individuals within the workplace.
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
