Job Description:
This is professional engineering work of a technical nature performing a variety of complex engineering functions in the Office of Safety. This is a unique position because it involves Highway Safety Engineering, Highway Design and Traffic Engineering. The position will assist the Safety Engineer to assemble and analyze safety data to identify crash trends and locations, and to identify, analyze and evaluate alternatives to improve the safety performance of our highway network through the State's Highway Safety Improvement Program.
This position will work closely with various units throughout the Department including the Bureau of Planning, Project Development, and Maintenance and Operations to ensure safety initiatives are included on programmed projects. Work is performed under limited supervision. Other experience working in Traffic Engineering, the FHWA's Highway Safety Manual, large databases, geographic information systems and proficiency with MS Office products are highly preferred.
To be minimally qualified for this position candidates must provide evidence of the following experience:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or closely related field -OR- non-engineering college graduates and non-degreed candidates must possess a Certification of Engineer-Intern as issued by the State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers.
