Job description

This is professional engineering work of a technical nature performing a variety of complex engineering functions in the Office of Safety. This position involves Highway Safety Engineering, Highway Design, and Traffic Engineering. The role will assist the Safety Engineer in assembling and analyzing safety data to identify crash trends and locations, and to evaluate alternatives to improve highway safety through the State's Highway Safety Improvement Program.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Work closely with various units across the Department including the Bureau of Planning, Project Development, and Maintenance and Operations to incorporate safety initiatives into programmed projects.
  2. Perform duties under limited supervision.
  3. Utilize experience in Traffic Engineering, the FHWA's Highway Safety Manual, large databases, geographic information systems, and proficiency with MS Office products.
Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must demonstrate the following experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a closely related field, OR
  • Non-engineering graduates with a Certification of Engineer-Intern issued by the State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers.
