Job summary

City of Winston-Salem, NC is seeking a skilled technician to supervise the construction, installation, maintenance and repair of traffic signs, markings, and related traffic control devices. You will plan crew assignments, manage field operations, and assist in training staff to ensure safe, compliant work.

The role requires substantial journeyman experience in traffic control, plus the ability to read blueprints, interpret plans, and apply safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma with considerable journeyman experience in traffic control work.
• Ability to read blueprints and apply them to installation and maintenance of signs, markings and devices.
• Knowledge of safety precautions and the operation of traffic control equipment; basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Plans and organizes crew assignments for installation, maintenance and repair of traffic signs, markings and devices.
• Supervises and reviews work of crews; instructs employees in operation and maintenance of traffic control devices.
• Answers trouble calls for field repairs; may be assigned to night standby for emergency repairs.
• Keeps records, makes reports, purchases supplies and manages inventory.

Supervises and reviews work of crews in the maintenance and repair of a variety of traffic control devices. Assists and instructs employees in the proper installation, operation and maintenance of traffic signs, traffic markings, and traffic control devices, etc. Answers trouble calls for field repairs; may be assigned to night standby duty for emergency repairs; keeps records, makes reports, purchase supplies, and manages inventory.Typical QualificationsEducation and Experience: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and considerable journeyman experience in specialized traffic control work.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Considerable experience of the installation, operation and maintenance of traffic signs, traffic markings, related traffic control devices and various types of equipment. Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trade; ability to instruct other employees in the operation, maintenance and repair of traffic control devices and various traffic equipment; ability to interpret blueprints and to apply this knowledge to the installation of traffic control devices and markings, operation and repair of traffic control equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, basic computer skills with knowledge of word, excel, and work management.Supplemental InformationPossession of a valid North Carolina Commercial Driver's License (CDL) class B.
