Job summary

The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy® (IMSA) is seeking an Assistant Coach for the high school Boys and Girls Track and Field for the Spring 2027 season. The ideal candidate should have experience in coaching and must pass a background check and a CPR/AED course. Responsibilities include conducting practices, coordinating with food service for meals, and attending practices & matches.

This is a stipend position based on experience, and involves managing a team and transporting students during the season.

Qualifications

• Experience in a high school coaching role or club setting preferred.

• Must possess a valid Illinois driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Conduct practices with varying Track & Field drills.

Job description

Overview

Illinois Mathematics & Science Academy (IMSA) is seeking an individual to fill the role of "AssistantCoach" for the high school Boys and Girls Track and Field upcoming Spring 2027 season. Experience in a high school coaching role or club setting is preferred. This is a stipend position that is based on experience in coaching and years involved in the sport. The Assistant Coach must be able to pass a background check, pass a CPR/AED basic life saving course and possess a valid Illinois drivers license to be able to drive any of the IMSA vehicles, which include up to a 14 passenger mini-bus. (no additional tests or endorsements are needed to operate these vehicles) Any potential candidate must possess the skills to conduct practices with varying Track & Field drills & conditioning for increasing the performance of athletes, while also having the ability to manage a team that would include:

• Working with the Head Coach & Coordinator of Athletics & Co-Curriculars for developing a competitive season of matches
• Work with food service staff to provide meals for the athletes when off campus
• Attend practices & matches from the start of the high school season to potential state finals
• Coordinate and supervise overnight stays needed for post season competition during the state series of competition
• Transport students to practices & matches during the course of the high school season

Requirements

Any potential candidate must have or be willing to obtain either of the following requirements as per IHSA By-Laws:

• Possess a completion certificate of an approved IHSA coaching course (ASEP)
• Currently have a valid teaching, school administrator, substitute teaching, school psychologist, school counselor, or school social worker certificate, or be retired from teaching to meet the IHSA By-Law for coaching
• Completion of all IHSA mandatory training modules as required by the IHSA along with any State of Illinois mandated training modules, as prescribed and assigned by GCN/OneNet

This position will report directly and will work under the direction of the Coordinator of Athletics at IMSA.
