The Assistant Town Clerk performs highly responsible, skilled, administrative, and supervisory work in all areas of responsibility for the Town Clerk’s Office. The Assistant Town Clerk must be capable of performing all the duties of the Town Clerk when the Town Clerk is unavailable, and acts as the Town Clerk in the Town Clerk’s absence. This requires knowledge of best practices and the execution of sound judgment as errors or omissions will have legal ramifications and will be costly to the Town. In managing the customer service operations of the office, the Assistant Town Clerk is responsible for ensuring that all staff follow best practices when performing day to day functions of the Town Clerk Division to ensure consistent performance across the division; Primary areas of focus include but are not limited to Election Administration including the onboarding, training, and supervision of 90 election workers; Vital Records; Public Records Retention, and the certification of various town records and documents. The Assistant Town Clerk assists in developing the division budget, processing contracts, establishing purchase orders and submitting accounts payable and payroll information for the Division, and all other related work, as required.
