ASSISTANT TOWN ADMINISTRATOR
ABOUT THE POSITION

The Town of Eaton is seeking an experienced local government professional to serve as its next Assistant Town Administrator. This executive-level leadership position offers the opportunity to play a meaningful role in the organization’s day-to-day operations and continued success of the organization.

Working with a high degree of independence and delegated authority, the Assistant Town Administrator helps turn organizational priorities and Board direction into action. The position works across departments to resolve complex issues, advance initiatives, and keep Town operations moving forward.

The Assistant Town Administrator directly supervises the Public Works Director and may assume oversight of additional departments or functions as organizational needs evolve.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide leadership and oversight of day-to-day Town operations and exercise independent decision-making authority.
  • Coordinate across departments to resolve complex issues and advance Town priorities.
  • Directly supervise the Public Works Director and oversee public works and utility operations.
  • Identify, pursue, and secure grant funding and oversee grant administration and compliance.
  • Partner with the Town leadership on budgeting, financial planning, contracts, and operational matters.
  • Oversee the preparation and coordination of staff reports and materials for the Board of Trustees.
  • Oversee assigned consultations, contracted services, and special projects.
  • Serve as Acting Town Administrator in the Town Administrator’s absence.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate is an experienced local government professional who understands municipal operations and is comfortable being actively involved in the organization’s day-to-day work. This person can move between departments and priorities, quickly understand an issue, and provide the direction needed to keep work moving.

The successful candidate will exercise sound judgment, take ownership of issues, and confidently advance priorities. They will be resourceful when working through complex or unfamiliar issues and recognize when collaboration or additional expertise is needed. They will bring an operational mindset, strong follow-through, and the ability to hold others accountable while building productive working relationships.

The ideal candidate will proactively identify and pursue grant and funding opportunities and have experience successfully managing grants.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in local government, public administration, municipal operations, or a related field, including leadership or management experience.
  • Three to five years of substantive grant experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, finance, planning, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA), Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), federal grants, or other governmental funding programs.
  • Downtown Development Authority (DDA) experience.
  • Experience with public works, utilities, infrastructure, or capital projects.
  • Experience with municipal finance and information technology.
  • Experience preparing or presenting information to a governing board.
  • MPA, MBA, or related graduate degree.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Salary Range: $149,618 – $205,357

Anticipated Hiring Range: $149,618 – $176,021

Starting salary will be based on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.

The Town offers a comprehensive benefits package for eligible full-time employees. Relocation assistance may be considered for the selected candidate.

Located in Weld County, the Town of Eaton is a growing community of approximately 5,800 residents that offers small-town character with convenient access to the northern Colorado Front Range. Eaton is just 7 miles north of Greeley, 22 miles east of Fort Collins, and 62 miles north of Denver.

The Town of Eaton is governed by a Mayor and a six-member Board of Trustees, elected at large to staggered four-year terms. The Town Administrator oversees the Town’s day-to-day operations, with the Assistant Town Administrator serving as a key operational partner in advancing Board priorities and supporting effective service delivery across the organization.
