Job summary

Washington National Cathedral is seeking a full time Assistant Technical Director/Audio Engineer to lead and execute audio/visual experiences for Services and events. The role combines operational oversight with hands-on audio engineering across Nave, Perry Auditorium, and other spaces, including outdoor events on the Close.

Ideal candidates bring 5+ years in audio engineering, supervisory experience, and proficiency with digital workstations and Yamaha CL3 consoles.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in sound design or a related field of study.
Substantial knowledge of sound engineering techniques and technology.
5+ years experience in audio/acoustics system development and/or technical direction.
Previous supervisory experience.
Proven proficiency in computer based digital audio workstations.
Proficient in programming and operation of Digital Audio Consoles i.e. Yamaha CL3.
Proficient in operation of video and streaming technology.
Acute hearing is required.

Responsibilities

Plan and execute audio and projection requirements for worship services and events.
Check wireless microphone operation and manage frequencies for participants.
Operate and maintain audio systems across multiple spaces in the Cathedral.
Collaborate with vendors to integrate rentals with Cathedral systems.
Mix and edit audio for live performances and recordings; coordinate video coverage.
Maintain Cathedral Audio Archives and support technical operations as needed.
