Job summary

The Isle of Wight Council is seeking an experienced Assistant Team Manager for the Children's Support and Protection Service. You will lead a team of Social Workers and family staff to deliver high-quality safeguarding for children and families on the island.

Working with the Team Manager, you will provide daily supervision and professional guidance, oversee complex casework and ensure statutory responsibilities are met in child protection, children in need and looked after children.

Qualifications

  • Qualified social worker with current SW England registration.
  • Significant post-qualification experience in Children's Social Care.
  • Experience safeguarding, child protection, and looked after children services.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring social workers, including Newly Qualified Social Workers.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and practice guidance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day leadership and supervision to staff.
  • Ensure safeguarding interventions meet statutory responsibilities.

37 hours per week This role is office-based; however, it also offers some agile or remote working Lead practice. Support staff. Safeguard children. Are you an experienced and passionate Social Worker looking to take the next step in your leadership career? We are seeking an Assistant Team Manager to join our Children's Support and Protection Service Team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in leading and supporting a team of Social Workers and family support professionals, helping to ensure that children and young people across the Isle of Wight receive high-quality safeguarding interventions at the right time. Working alongside the Team Manager, you will provide day-to-day leadership, supervision and professional guidance to staff, promoting excellent practice and ensuring statutory responsibilities are fulfilled in relation to Child Protection, Children in Need and Looked After Children. The role offers a rewarding mix of operational leadership, quality assurance, practice development and direct involvement in complex casework. You will work closely with colleagues and partner agencies including Health, Education, Police and CAMHS to achieve the best possible outcomes for children and families.

What you will bring
  • A recognised Social Work qualification and current registration with Social Work England.
  • Significant post-qualifying experience within Children's Social Care.
  • Experience of safeguarding, child protection, children in need and looked after children services.
  • Experience of supervising, mentoring or supporting the development of Social Workers, including Newly Qualified Social Workers.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, policy and practice guidance relating to children and families.
  • The ability to make sound and timely threshold decisions and manage complex casework.
  • Experience of multi-agency working and building effective professional relationships.
  • Excellent communication, analytical and decision-making skills.
  • A commitment to reflective practice, continuous improvement and achieving positive outcomes for children and families.
