Position Summary

Under the guidance of the Head Teacher and supervision of the Child Development Director, the Assistant Teacher provides high-quality education and care for preschool students. Responsibilities include assisting in daily classroom supervision, outdoor play activities, and ensuring a safe, healthy environment using positive discipline techniques.

Essential Functions

• Assist the Teacher in daily supervision and outdoor activities, ensuring safety and health standards.
• Promote inclusivity and anti-racist practices; foster a respectful, brave culture at the Y.
• Help develop and implement appropriate curricula; submit forms and reports timely.
• Use child development knowledge for assessment and planning.
• Supervise parents and visitors; assist with emergency drills and documentation.
• Prepare materials, take attendance, and manage reports for CACFP or USDA.
• Follow proper food handling, sanitation, and OSHA procedures.
• Maintain anecdotal logs and keep classroom materials organized.
• Uphold YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, caring.
• Maintain confidentiality of child and family information.
• Supervise children and adhere to all policies and regulations.
• Perform other duties as required.
