Join to apply for the Assistant, Teacher K-3/ (25-26) role at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.

Working under the supervision of a teacher or principal, K-3 teacher assistants (TA) provide additional assistance and instruction to students. They assist the teacher in achieving the standards and objectives of excellence as set by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. They work cooperatively with the principal and teacher in providing a classroom environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional programs and available curriculum and technology materials. They work individually or in small groups to reinforce instruction, monitor performance, and support learning. This position also performs a variety of instructional and classroom management supports, as well as clerical tasks to support teachers.

Essential Duties

1. Assist children individually or in small groups to help them master assignments and reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
2. Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, gymnasiums, or during field trips.
3. Enforce administration policies and rules governing students.
4. Coordinate instructional efforts by discussing duties with classroom teachers.
5. Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damages.
6. Observe students' performance and record relevant data to assess progress.

Education and Experience

• Minimum: Completion of an Associate's Degree, two years of higher education (48 credit hours), or ability to pass a formal assessment (Workkey and 96 hours of in-service training), or completion of the NC DOL Apprenticeship Program, or completion of the NC ATA Professional Development Plan.
• Desirable: Associate's Degree with a concentration in Education; 2+ years working with elementary age children.
