Working under the supervision of a teacher or principal, K-3 teacher assistants (TA) provide additional assistance and instruction to students. They help achieve the standards and objectives set by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, working cooperatively with principals and teachers to create a conducive classroom environment. They reinforce instruction, monitor student performance, support learning, and perform clerical tasks to assist teachers.

Responsibilities include:
  • Assisting children individually or in small groups to master assignments and reinforce learning concepts.
  • Supervising students in various school settings and during field trips.
  • Enforcing school policies and rules.
  • Collaborating with teachers on instructional efforts.
  • Monitoring and instructing students on the proper use of equipment and materials.
  • Observing and recording students' performance to assess progress.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Completion of an Associate's Degree, or two years of higher education (48 credit hours), or passing a formal assessment, or completion of specific training programs as outlined.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate's Degree with a focus on Education.
  • Over two years of experience working with elementary-aged children.
