The Y in Central Maryland is seeking an Assistant Teacher for its Head Start program. This role involves working collaboratively with classroom teachers, center administration, family advocates, and family members to implement curriculum and achieve positive outcomes for children of all abilities. The Assistant Teacher is responsible for ensuring the safety, supervision, and regulatory compliance of children, contributing to a nurturing environment that promotes social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and creative development. The position focuses on supporting economically disadvantaged children to prepare for school and life success.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Supporting classroom activities and curriculum implementation.
  2. Ensuring children's health, safety, and welfare.
  3. Fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  4. Collaborating with staff and families to support children's development.

Qualifications include:

  • Interest in early childhood education and child well-being.
  • Some prior experience in early childhood settings.
  • Effective communication and listening skills.
  • Child Development Associate certification.
  • 90-hour child care certification and 9 hours in communication.
