Job summary

cdcw is seeking an Assistant Teacher to join our early childhood team in Glen Allen, VA. Two full-time openings and one part-time opening are available.

The schedule runs Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with an unpaid 1-hour break and potential 2:00 PM–6:00 PM shift for the part-time role. Responsibilities include supervising children, supporting routines, assisting Lead Teacher with lesson plans, and maintaining a positive, safe classroom.

Qualifications

  • Meet Virginia child care licensing requirements for Assistant Teachers.
  • Experience in childcare, preschool, or early childhood setting preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team.
  • Commitment to providing high-quality care and early childhood education.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of children through active supervision.
  • Support daily routines, including meals, rest time, hygiene, and classroom transitions.
  • Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing age-appropriate learning activities and lesson plans.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive classroom that encourages children's independence and development.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and engaging learning environment.
  • Use positive guidance techniques to encourage appropriate behavior.
  • Build professional, respectful relationships with children, families, and team members.
  • Follow all Virginia licensing regulations, health and safety procedures, and center policies.
  • Assist with attendance, classroom documentation, and other administrative tasks as needed.
  • Participate in required training and ongoing professional development.

Position

Assistant Teacher (2 Full-Time Openings and 1 Part-Time Opening)
