Job summary

The New York Power Authority seeks a NERC-focused operator to manage daily GOP/TO/TOP duties, monitoring generation and transmission assets, and coordinating switching with NYISO. You will ensure reliability and compliance while working shifts across days, nights, and weekends.

Qualified candidates will have an AAS in electrical tech (or related), NYISO training readiness, and strong communication skills. A 1‑year related experience plus a NERC certification within one year are preferred.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of power system generation and transmission concepts.
• Ability to complete NYISO System Operator Training.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to learn 3‑Part communication.
• Working knowledge of Office programs (Word/Excel).
• Ability to learn/use Energy Management System (EMS).
• Able to communicate with NYPA Regional Projects and outside entities like NYISO and GRM.
• Ability to review outage coordination summary sheets.
• Review NYPA outage coordination sheets to identify planned outages.
• Experience with rotating shift work preferred.
• Commitment to NERC/NPCC/NYISO/NYPA requirements.
• Willingness to learn NYPA policies and control room guides.

Responsibilities

• Control Center position with focus on GOP tasks and verbal coordination.
• Utilize EMS and NYISO MIS to monitor real-time status.
• Coordinate NYPA generation stop/starts.
• Assess generation reserves bid by GRM.
• Check NYPA DAM schedules.
• Monitor generation every 15 minutes and ensure on schedule.
• Coordinate and document derates and NYISO out of merits.
• Assess metering and after-the-fact readings for accuracy.
• Understand EMS one-line diagrams.
• Calculate water in BG reservoir for reserves and NYISO schedules.
• Adhere to NERC/NPCC/NYISO/NYPA requirements.
• Learn NYPA operating policies and control room guides.
• Must work rotating shifts including nights, midnights, weekends, holidays.
