Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Create an environment welcoming swimmers from varying levels and backgrounds.
• Assist in planning and directing team practices.
• Follow and implement workouts provided by the head coach.
• Attend team practices, meets, and coaches meetings.
• Assist in developing team events and lesson plans.
• Coordinate team entry information and equipment safety.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

This position is responsible for assisting with planning, managing and directing swim teams and for ensuring the safety of participants.

HOURS/DAYS SCHEDULE:

Evenings and Weekends

HOURLY PAY RATE:

$16.00+/hour, based on experience and credentials

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Create an environment that welcomes all types of swimmers from varying levels and backgrounds.
• Assist in the planning and direction of team practices.
• Ability to follow and implement written workouts provided by the head coach.
• Attend team practices, team meets, and regular coaches meetings.
• Assist in development of team events and lesson plans.
• Assist in coordinating team entry information.
• Ensure safety of participants by enforcing policies and disciplinary rules.
• Relate to individual members on a professional basis at all times.
• Know emergency procedures and be able to demonstrate them.
• Monitor and maintain equipment, along with notifying the supervisor or designated staff person of equipment issues.
• Report specific problems or needs to the supervisor or designated staff person.
• Respond to questions and concerns of program participants and families.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staff person.
• Demonstrate and support the objectives of the Association as embodied in the mission statement and values.

Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematical functions
• Completion of high school or equivalent
• Perform basic computer skills such as computerized time clock, electronic communications, and online training requirements.
• Competitive swimming experience or knowledge required; competitive coaching experience preferred
• Child Abuse Prevention Training - prior to starting if hired, and maintained annually
• American Red Cross CPR-PR/AED/First Aid Certifications or equivalent certifications approved by the YMCA – prior to first day and maintained afterwards.
• Additional training to be completed within the first 30 days and maintained afterward, including Principles of YMCA Swimming and Diving.
