Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Swim Coach/Aquatics Director in the Taylor Natatorium oversight, including lifeguard supervision, water quality testing, facility maintenance, and event management.
• Assess athletes’ ability to apply sport‑specific skills in game situations after instruction by coach(es).
• Develop, implement, and monitor conditioning programs; counsel injured athletes and assist in recovery.
• Serve as liaison to the Office of Academic Services to advise student‑athletes on academic standing and issues.

Overview

Assist in the overall instruction and training of student-athletesunder NCAA operating bylaws, including the recruitment of newstudent-athletes, strength and conditioning, ongoing assessment ofstudent-athlete abilities, and academic advising.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Develop game/practice plans and communicate both verbally andin writing with current and potential students on various academicand social issues, etc. Provide verbal and written instruction tostudent athletes on sport-specific skills and game-related tacticsin one-on-one, small group, and large group sessions (i.e., duringgames, on-field practices and video review sessions). Comply withand uphold NCAA rules and guidelines and complete all necessarydocumentation. (35%)
2. Within guidelines issued by the athletic department, the BigEast Conference, and the NCAA, perform work related to the recruitment and retention of student-athletes. Assess the abilitiesof potential student-athletes and make recommendations to the HeadCoach for acceptance to the College. Such work requires exercise ofindependent judgment in scouting potential student athletes.(15%)
3. Assist the Head Swim Coach/Aquatics Director in the oversightand daily operation of the Taylor Natatorium, including supervisionof lifeguard staff, water quality testing and treatment, facilitymaintenance coordination, and event management activities.(15%)Assess student-athletes’ ability to effectively applysport-specific skills and game-related tactics in game or practicesituations subsequent to instruction by head or assistantcoach(es). (10%)
4. Develop, implement, and monitor a conditioning program forstudent athletes. Counsel injured student-athletes and assist inand monitor their recovery. (10%)
5. Serve as direct liaison to the Office of Academic Services andpartner with that office to advise student-athletes on academicissues. Counsel student-athletes on decisions regarding academicstanding and academic problems. (10%)
6. As needed, arrange for the procurement or purchase of neededequipment or services to support the training and education ofstudent-athletes. (5%)

MARGINAL DUTIES:

1. Maintain a working knowledge of “best practices” in regard tosport-specific skills, game related tactics, and physical fitnessconcepts through attendance at coaching seminars and frominstructional materials, both written and video.
2. Perform all other duties as may be required.
