Qualifications

  • Current Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR certifications are required.
  • USA Swimming Level I and Level II certifications are required.
  • Principles of YMCA Swimming and Diving should be completed within the first year of employment.
  • Certifications/experience in swim-specific strength and conditioning are beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • PROGRAM EXECUTION: Execute an integrated swimming program; attend all scheduled practices; coach at meets.
  • STAFF ENGAGEMENT: Work with YMCA staff; communicate professionally with Directors of Competitive Swimming; attend staff meetings.
  • MEMBER ENGAGEMENT: Interact with members in a friendly, helpful manner; answer questions about programs and policies.
  • FACILITY MANAGEMENT: Maintain a clean, safe pool environment; report faulty equipment.
  • VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT: Support volunteers and their daily functions.

Education

Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR Certification
USA Swimming Level I certification
USA Swimming Level II certification
Principles of YMCA Swimming and Diving
Swim-specific strength and conditioning knowledge (beneficial)

Job description

The Assistant Swim Coach, under the supervision of the Coach-Swim Team, has the prime responsibility of executing all coaching duties for the South Shore YMCA Strypers swim team at YMCA branches and/or additional practice locations.Reports to: Coach-Swim TeamCORE EXPECTATIONS:PROGRAM EXECUTIONExecute an integrated swimming program that meets the needs of swimmers of all ages and abilities.Attend all scheduled practices.Attendance and coaching responsibilities at regular swim meets.Address and resolve swimmer/parent issues with the Directors of Competitive Swimming at all times.STAFF ENGAGEMENT AND TEAMWORKWork with fellow YMCA staff members and treat them with respect.Communicate with the Directors of Competitive Swimming in a professional and timely manner.Perform other duties needed as delegated by Directors of Competitive Swimming.Attend staff meetings and complete skill trainings.MEMBER ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENTInteract with members in a friendly, engaging, and professional manner.Be familiar with all information and answer questions about programs, schedules, and policies or direct people to Directors of Competitive Swimming and/or Aquatic Directors.Ensure that the South Shore YMCA Child Protection Policies are fulfilled.FACILITY MANAGEMENTMaintain a clean and organized pool environment.Record and report any faulty equipment and/or lapse in maintenance to the aquatic supervisors on duty.Ensure all swim team equipment is neatly stored and/or maintained before, during and after practices.VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENTSupport volunteers and their daily functions.YMCA COMPETENCIES - LEADERMission and Community Oriented – Accepts and demonstrates YMCA values.
