Job summary

South Sound YMCA in Olympia seeks an Assistant Swim Coach to support the swim team, foster an inclusive atmosphere, and help swimmers grow safely and achieve their goals.

You will design workouts for varied ability levels, assist the Head Coach, coordinate with families, and help coordinate meets with volunteers. CPR/First Aid certification preferred; coaching certificates from USSA/ YMCA are valued. 1+ year aquatics experience required.

Qualifications

• 1+ year experience with aquatics and competitive sports.
• Knowledge of age-appropriate development and training guidelines.
• CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
• USSA, YMCA or American Red Cross coaching certificate preferred.
• Ability to relate to diverse groups in the community.
• Ability to collaborate with department leaders, families and volunteers.

Responsibilities

• Create an inclusive atmosphere fostering positive participation and good sportsmanship for all swimmers and families.
• Encourage personal and team achievement and involvement.
• Design and coordinate workouts appropriate for varied levels of ability, including fun activities.
• Assist the Head Coach and families with team building activities outside the pool.
• Communicate with families regarding the progress of their swimmer.
• Coordinate swim meets in collaboration with Department Leadership, Head Coach, Parents and Volunteers.
• Ensure any and all equipment is used and stored properly.
• Coordinate the setup and clean up of facilities for practices and meets.
• Report accidents, injuries, and incidents immediately via online reporting system.
• All other duties as assigned.
